Marking World Food Day 2026, Rise Against Hunger India brought together its team members, volunteers, students, nutrition experts and community stakeholders through a series of activities focused on addressing hunger, promoting nutrition awareness, encouraging innovation and building a more sustainable food system.
Observed annually on October 16, World Food Day serves as a reminder that access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food is fundamental to human well-being. Through these initiatives, Rise Against Hunger India reaffirmed its commitment to its vision of a hunger-free world, highlighting the importance of collective action in ensuring food and nutrition security for all.

A key highlight of the celebrations was a Packathon organized by the Rise Against Hunger India team and volunteers across all offices, with a target of packaging one lakh meals. The initiative brought corporate and NGO partners, academic staff and others around a shared purpose, demonstrating how collective volunteer action can contribute to addressing food insecurity.

A nutrition awareness session conducted by a nutritionist in Bangalore highlighted the importance of balanced diets, healthy eating habits and adequate nutrient intake. The session encouraged participants to make informed food choices and recognize that addressing hunger requires not only access to food but also access to nutritious and diverse diets.

The celebrations also showcased innovation using biodegradable meal-packaging pouches, highlighting opportunities to explore more environmentally responsible approaches to meal packaging.

A grand Seed Festival brought attention to the importance of seeds, agricultural biodiversity and traditional food systems. The festival celebrated the role of seeds in sustaining agriculture, preserving food diversity and supporting resilient food systems. During the program, Food Heroes and Food Heroine were honored for their contributions to agriculture and food security. The event witnessed the participation of approximately 1,200 farmers from neighboring villages. Women representing 43 Self-Help Groups showcased a variety of traditional dishes encompassing all five food groups, celebrating the region’s rich culinary heritage and indigenous food practices.

World Food Day activities extended beyond the Bangalore headquarters, with regional teams organizing their own initiatives. The team at the Centre of Climate Response and Resilience (C2R2) in Bhubaneswar conducted a meal packaging event, further demonstrating the organization-wide commitment to collective action against hunger.

"World Food Day is more than a day of observance; it is an opportunity to renew our shared responsibility to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive."
The World Food Day celebrations reinforced the message that ending hunger requires action at multiple levels — from packing meals and improving nutrition awareness to encouraging sustainable practices and strengthening food systems. By engaging employees, volunteers, students and nutrition experts, Rise Against Hunger India sought to translate awareness into meaningful action.
