A New Chapter for Hyderabad: Celebrating a Decade of Partnerships, Growth and Community Impact

On August 4, 2025, as students welcomed guests with a vibrant cultural performance and partner organizations showcased their achievements and innovations, Rise Against Hunger India inaugurated its new Hyderabad office and warehouse. The event brought together corporate partners, NGO leaders, volunteers, students and community members to celebrate what appeared to be the opening of a new facility. In reality, the occasion marked something much more significant.

The inauguration of the new Hyderabad office and warehouse marked a significant milestone in the region's growth journey. It celebrated a decade-long journey of partnership, growth and impact that has transformed Hyderabad into one of Rise Against Hunger India's fastest-growing regions.

From Bangalore-Supported Operations to a Thriving Regional Hub

The story of Rise Against Hunger India in Hyderabad began in 2015. In those early years, all activities in the city were coordinated from Bangalore. Every meal packaging event required extensive planning and coordination. Equipment and packaging materials were transported from Bangalore, facilitators travelled to Hyderabad to oversee preparations, ingredients were procured locally, and NGO partners were identified to receive the meals packaged during volunteering events. Following each event, the equipment would be transported back to Bangalore, ready for the next program.

Despite these logistical challenges, the foundation for a strong regional presence was steadily being built. Corporate partners embraced volunteering meal packaging events, while a small but committed group of NGO partners worked alongside Rise Against Hunger India to provide nutrition support to children participating in educational programs. What started as occasional engagement soon evolved into something much larger.

Growing Through Partnerships

As corporate engagement increased, Hyderabad witnessed a steady rise in volunteering and CSR activities. More organizations began hosting employee engagement programs, creating opportunities to package and distribute increasing quantities of nutritious meals. The growth in corporate participation led naturally to deeper partnerships with NGOs and community-based organizations. Meal support moved beyond one-time event-based distributions to more structured and sustained programs. To bridge gaps between packaging events, meals were sometimes transported from Bangalore to ensure continuity of support for partner organizations.

Over time, Hyderabad began hosting large-scale volunteering events involving up to 1,500 participants. While annual packaging volumes ranged between 50,000 and 100,000 meals during the early years, some mega events produced as many as 200,000 meals in a single program. Today, Hyderabad facilitates nearly half a million meals annually on average. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, growth accelerated further, with multiple corporate volunteering events being hosted in some months. This expansion created opportunities to engage more NGOs and deepen community impact.

Beyond Meals: Building Health, Skills and Opportunities

While meal packaging remains a cornerstone of its work, the Hyderabad story is about much more than food.

Over the years, partners in the region have received approximately 2.5 million meals, supporting educational initiatives, residential care programs for visually impaired children, women's empowerment projects, youth development programs and skill-building initiatives.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when meal packaging activities became difficult due to restrictions and lockdowns, Rise Against Hunger India and its partners adapted quickly. Through locally organized relief efforts, nearly 600,000 meals and dry ration kits reached vulnerable communities, including migrant workers, casual laborers and daily wage earners.

As partnerships matured, support expanded beyond nutrition. Initiatives included repairs and renovation of drinking water systems, construction of sanitation facilities, establishment of nutrition gardens and implementation of life-skills education programs. Educational kits were also distributed to hundreds of students as recognition of their academic achievements.

The impact of these efforts was evident in stories shared during the inauguration event. Partner organizations spoke about improvements in children's health, increased participation in education programs and significant reductions in anemia among adolescent girls receiving nutritional support. One partner shared that children demonstrated visible improvements in physical growth, energy levels and attentiveness after receiving regular meals. Another highlighted how hemoglobin levels among adolescent participants increased from severely anemic levels to healthier ranges following sustained nutrition interventions.

The Power of Partnership

A defining feature of Hyderabad's growth journey has been the strength of its partnerships. Among the most significant has been the longstanding collaboration with Chaithanya Mahila Mandali (CMM), which has worked alongside Rise Against Hunger India for nearly a decade. What began through nutrition support gradually expanded into a broader partnership encompassing life-skills education, organic kitchen gardening, women's empowerment and community development initiatives.

The partnership became even more significant when Hyderabad's growing operations required local infrastructure. Recognizing the potential for greater impact, Chaithanya Mahila Mandali generously provided space for meal storage, program implementation and operational activities. Their support enabled Rise Against Hunger India to establish a local office-cum-warehouse, significantly strengthening Hyderabad's ability to host corporate volunteering programs, manage logistics and expand its network of partners.

Why a New Office Was Needed

As the region continued to grow, Hyderabad emerged as a strategic priority within Rise Against Hunger India's operational plans. The increasing frequency of events, growing number of partners and expanding program portfolio made it clear that additional infrastructure was needed to support future growth.

A dedicated office and warehouse would not only improve operational efficiency but also create opportunities for community engagement. Inspired by successful community volunteering models already operating in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, Rise Against Hunger India envisioned a space where individuals, families, students and volunteers could come together to contribute their time and energy towards the fight against hunger. The new Hyderabad office was established to make that vision a reality. Conveniently located and easily accessible, the facility will serve as a hub for corporate engagement, NGO partnerships, volunteer activities and program management across the region.

A Celebration of Community

The inauguration brought together more than 100 participants representing a diverse range of stakeholders. Students from partner organizations welcomed guests through cultural performances that showcased talent, creativity and confidence. Partner stalls highlighted products developed by children and young people participating in various community programs.

Among the highlights was an award-winning student-developed rover model, demonstrating how supportive environments can nurture innovation and aspiration. Another stall featured a selection of cakes and pastries prepared by students undergoing culinary training, while visually impaired students displayed handcrafted products and creative works. The event also included exhibits highlighting program achievements, volunteer engagement and impact stories from across the region.

To recognize their contributions, partner organizations were presented with certificates of appreciation and resource materials to strengthen program documentation and impact reporting.

"This Is Our Office"

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the day came through the words of the partners themselves. Referring to the new Hyderabad facility, one partner remarked:

More than a statement of appreciation, these words reflected something deeper: a sense of ownership, shared purpose and commitment to collective impact. It was a reminder that Hyderabad's growth has not been driven by one organization alone. It has been made possible through the contributions of corporate partners, volunteers, NGOs, community leaders and countless individuals who have believed in the power of collaboration.

Looking Ahead

With a dedicated Hyderabad Chapter Manager joining the team and plans to expand local staffing, Rise Against Hunger India is entering an exciting new phase of growth. The new office will support the expansion of corporate partnerships, strengthen NGO engagement and create more opportunities for community volunteering. Programs focused on life-skills education and nutrition awareness are already being prepared in collaboration with local partners and educational institutions.

What began as a city supported remotely through periodic visits and transported equipment has now become a thriving chapter with its own team, infrastructure and aspirations. The new Hyderabad office is not merely a facility. It is a symbol of a decade of partnership, trust and shared commitment, and a platform for the next chapter of impact.
